Weigh in Tuesday – disappointment or elation?
Tuesday is weigh in day – but after a weekend of foodie fun, including a totally awesome Thai cooking class – I thought jumping on the scales would not be a good idea for my self-esteem. Me being me, I decided to do it anyway … Self-torture is always a fun past time, right?
But not before going to the bathroom and removing any heavy clothing. Why set myself up for even more disappointment then necessary – right? So, I stood on the scale, wearing nothing but my underwear, too scared to look at the screen. Over the past week I have been feeling great – still a bit sore, but overall, pretty good.
I went over the week in my head … Are my clothes feeling loser? Yes. Am I feeling lighter and fitter … yes. People have certainly been noticing the changes, which is really nice. Had I eaten all the right things? Well, not exactly. Matt and I went out and enjoyed an Indian feast on Friday night (and a few too many glasses of wine!!)
I had also had my cooking class on Saturday – which included eating deep-fried spring rolls, fish cakes and evil coconut milk.
But, I had planned for it. I did extra exercise to earn more points – I was careful with all my other meals so I could afford the indulgence. But, I was scared that despite my planning – the scales would show an ugly weight gain. Punishment for not being super strict on myself.
Mustering my courage – I looked at the numbers – but I couldn’t read what they said. With sleepy eyes and no glasses I could see a 1 and a 0, but I couldn’t make out the rest. Hopping off the scales, I went to retrieve my glasses. I took a deep breath, and jumped back on. I bent over slightly to confront the little digital computer screen – and smiled. Last weigh in I was 100.8 kilos. I admit I have become a bit addicted to the scales, and on previous weigh ins throughout the week, I had gone up as far as 102.1KG!!! Just goes to prove one should not weigh themselves after dinner!! Today, I was 100.4KG. I entered the new number into my Weight Watchers app and the little screen congratulating me on losing 10% of my body weight popped up. Woot!!!! Compared to ridiculous shows like The Biggest Looser, I know 400grams to some people would feel like nothing at all. But today, for me, it was very encouraging. Slow and steady wins the race, right?
As it turns out, I have two goals that are very close to each other. My last goal (for now) is to be under 100KG by the time I get measured for my wedding dress. It just so happens that two of my bridesmaids and I will be heading to Melbourne on Saturday to do just that! The question is … can I lose half a kilo in that time? Well, I am going to give it my very best shot!
So, this week my goal is to train at the gym every day. That’s right – every day I will hit the gym and give it 100 per cent. Yesterday and today I was up at 6.30 and in the gym at around 7am to do my workouts. I’m only really doing 30 to 40 minutes – but that’s plenty as long as I give it my all while I’m there.
Also with reaching the 10% milestone has meant Weight Watchers has further decreased the number of food points I am allowed to consume each day. I started at being allowed 38 points. I’m now down to 33!! It makes sense though. As you get lighter, it doesn’t take as much energy to move, and therefore you are burning fewer calories. So, to continue to lose weight, you need to eat less. This week I am going to be very practical, and not indulgent, about my food choices. I’ve got my plan of attack and I’m sticking to it!
I guess as I go through this journey I am learning that I really can enjoy my food, and lose weight. It just takes planning. Lucky, because I’ll never go back to the way I was before and I certainly don’t want to spend my life feeling deprived!
Anyway, stay tuned for the next installment to find out if I can reach my goal. As long as I know I have tried my hardest – whatever happens, everything will be fine.
How have you rewarded yourself for reaching a goal you have set for yourself? It might not be weight loss, but something else like finding a new job, or quitting smoking. Share your thoughts in the comments section below. I have decided to put a new, very blingy, clutch bag on lay by for myself. I’ll use it on my wedding day … but I need ideas for my 20kg milestone. One thing I do know is that I won’t be rewarding myself with food!
